Johnson’s Beach is one of Pensacola’s many hidden gems.
If you want to step away from a touristy beach go to Johnson’s beach. There is a fee but it’s worth it. It’s a beautiful oasis that shows you the true Florida panhandle beaches with the sugar white sands, emerald waters, sand dunes, bird life, and serenity. Maybe you’ll get lucky like I did and experience a sunset that you would never forget. An evening before the storm I decided to take my Fujifilm X100F and get some local beach shots for future prints and products. I’m so glad I did and God gave me the perfect day! I caught the sun melt into the water while peaceful sand pipers fed along the shore.
While photographing the sun mid setting and catching some surfers in the distance riding stormy waves I turned around and witnessed a rainbow shining while a storm was in the distance. In the foreground I was able to catch the natural dunes and waves washing in. Take a look at my latest photos of what I was able to experience. Hopefully you’ll get an evening like I did. Experiencing peace, quiet, nature, and natural beauty. I was able to meditate, witness pure joy of surfers catching waves, fishermen spending quality time with loved ones teaching them how to fish. I even collected seashells for my jewelry making hobby! It was a serene experience. I’m so grateful for the evening and to be able to share my experience with you. Head to Johnson’s beach for a sunset and you’ll be glad you did.
Bonus for the national park and historic sites enthusiast! Johnson’s beach is located in Gulf Islands National Seashore. So you can use your national parks pass to get in. Otherwise, it’s has a fee to get in like for most National Sites. If you want the full National Seashores experience in the panhandle after visiting Johnson’s beach I’d suggest going to Downtown Pensacola and taking the ferry to Fort Pickens. The Ferry pass will take you to Ft. Pickens, Pensacola Beach, and Downtown. You can bring your bike and cooler and it runs from morning till sunset. It’s a beautiful experience, if you sit inside the ranger tells you a bit of the history of the area. Enjoy your time in the beautiful Florida panhandle!
