Daily Reminder to Detach from Screens.
Share
Cautiously choose to remove the screens from your face.
We live in a world saturated with screens. From the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep, our lives are intertwined with the digital world. Communication, entertainment, even reading this very post – it all happens on a screen. It's become so normalized that it's hard to imagine a life without constant screen time. Even activities like golf, which were once synonymous with fresh air and nature, are now migrating to the virtual realm. I often think back to the early 2000s, a time when phones weren't glued to everyone's hands. I'm just as guilty as anyone; my phone is my alarm, my source of music and podcasts, my reading companion, my email hub – it's practically an extension of my hand, and I hate it.
Lately, I've found it increasingly difficult to disconnect from the digital noise, especially with the constant barrage of news and information. These platforms are designed to be addictive, and it's a struggle to maintain genuine, present moments without digital interference. So, this is a gentle reminder to cautiously detach from your screens. If you can, leave your phone at home and step outside for just ten minutes. Observe the clouds, listen to the sounds around you, feel the wind on your face. Allow yourself to be bored for ten minutes. It might feel strange at first, especially if you're accustomed to constant stimulation. But practicing this simple act of "boredom" can be surprisingly relaxing and stress-reducing. Remember those days, fellow 90s kids, when we'd sit outside for hours, watching clouds drift by with neighborhood friends? Now, we long for those moments of peace.
In my previous home, I had a porch with a bird feeder. I loved spending my evenings there, watching the birds while working on a sudoku puzzle. It was incredibly peaceful; I'd forget about my phone and disconnect from the digital world as soon as I finished work. Since moving, I've lost that habit and noticed how much more attached I've become to my phone. Instead of intentionally carving out time for nature and connection, I'm constantly drawn back to the screen. So, my goal this year is to reclaim that routine – to rediscover the joy of leaving my phone behind and simply being present with a good book or puzzle.
If you're feeling drained and overwhelmed by screens, I encourage you to join me. Try detaching for just ten minutes. Enjoy the simple pleasure of being bored outside, playing with your pets, or having a genuine conversation with someone. It might be just the recharge you need.
Peace & Love ✌️💜
